Trust and Monitoring Policy Facebook

FaceI checked on the Facebook policies. It was revised in December and I was thinking I probably would have never looked for the revision date if I wasn't in this program. It was set up easy to follow with numbered sub titles at top and easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The surprise I found was you have to be 13 years old to sign up for a Facebook and the is not a way to verify how old everyone is. All you do is input a date of birth, can be made up, and you have a Facebook page. It would make more sense if anyone under 16 years old had to have parents permission. A way to do this is for Facebook to send an email to the parents and the parents verify their child's age. I know it isn't fool proof, but it may detour some kids younger than 13.

  1. Interesting suggestion about having a parent verify the child's age for Facebook. I guess that is why it is called a "Trust" policy, they have to trust you are representing yourself correctly!

  2. Kids use to play Disney Virtual Kingdom, DVK. And in order for them to play, DVK sent me an email and I had to verify it was OK for them to join. They also had to spell all the words they typed correct or it wouldn't post. My daughter says that is why she is a great speller.
