I love the question "where do mommy and daddy get money?" Whenever I asked for too much when I was little, they always told me "you think money grows off of trees huh?"
ReplyDeleteI think your assessment is perfect for the little ones. It's simple and something they will use everyday as they grow older.
Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI like the activities you listed in the second column like having them play as the cashier. However, I think your third column could use some work. Either by adding additional activities, or better describing the ones you listed. What kind of Quiz? What kind of Test? What will your Ongoing Assessment look like? Will it be informal or rubric graded?
ReplyDeleteIt's possible that the performance verbs statements you have in the second column for stage 2 are more like performance tasks. In column 2 you would list which level of learning would be taking place.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, both items there sound like role-playing, which is an excellent way of learning especially for this age level. So the text might read "you would need evidence of the student's ability to...calculate monetary exchanges for purchasing and providing change through role-playing; or create a monetary system of exchange using everyday objects; or assume job titles to earn wages to pay for daily living or entertainment costs..." You could go on and on, but these are some of the ways role-playing can help through discovery. So much potential here, it can be really fun!
LeeAnn, I love your questions to thoughtfully consider! Those are great concepts for the students to think about! I have had classroom stores and this activity was always a hit!
ReplyDeleteI agree that column #3 needs more detail. One suggestion is that your ongoing assessment be done while the students are either counting exact change to "purchase" something, or counting back change. You will be assessing whether or not they can successfully do that task. The results of that assessment lets you know if you need to reteach counting money, or if they have mastered that skill.
