ReplyDeleteI have included the lesson plan with my BWD Stage 1 so you can make comments based on the entire lesson plan. All comments appreciated!! Blessings!!!
ReplyDeleteLeeAnn this BWD lesson plan is actually really well put together and I could see you put a lot of thought into it. My only comment would be explanation on how a poem could motivate them for counting coins? Can you elaborate how you got this idea? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi LeeAnn,
ReplyDeleteCounting money is always a fun lesson in 1st grade! I like the fact that you posted your lesson because it made it so much easier to understand your goals/understanding, etc. But just a heads up, Prof. Silva commented on another site not to post our lessons as we will be revamping them in the next couple sessions.
The only suggestion I would have for your BWD is that possibly your established goals and desired understandings should be switched. It seems that your desired understandings are more in line with the state standards and your desired key skills, so they should be your established goals. What do you think?
LeeAnn, I like the economic component of the lesson. I like that you put it on a global footing and talk about the value of money and what it is for. Looks like it is for elementary. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteLeeAnn,
ReplyDeleteYou can omit the lesson plan itself from your stage 1 document, as the assignment only calls for defining the elements on the stage 1 graphic organizer. Providing the entire lesson plan is not necessary and will likely end up changing after stages 2 and 3 so is not relevant at this point.
In looking at what you have for stage 1 so far, I am wondering if there is a content standard for this at grade 1 level that would fit in to the Established Goals area. What you have there now, sounds Big Idea-ish, which is actually great as you will move toward defining that in stage 2.
Next, the Desired Understandings that are listed there are actually skills, so move them to that section. Instead, is there a way to state the idea that money or commerce, if you will, takes many forms or buys us many things or some such notion that kids at this level might not have within their realm of understanding yet. I would ask you to add more essential questions just to have several to choose from. I thought immediately of the question of "where doe smoney come from?" or "where does mom or dad get money from?" Although you don't have to use those, I just wanted to prompt you to think further of more questions, as they will help in stages 2 and 3, as well as provide some foundation for forming a big idea.
@Albert-the poem was in the lesson plan and I probably wouldn't use one if I was doing the lesson plan as is. For my BWD, I am still unsure if it would fit into my lesson.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments everyone. @Cindy- I changed to grade level to only 2nd grade. First does learn about money, but they learn about buying, selling and counting change in the 2nd grade. Thanks for noticing I have the top 2 confused. I am staring to get a clearer picture of a BWD lesson plan and I pray it will all come together soon!
