Weebly

As everyone is already aware, I am new to building a web site and blogging. I started my GLP on Weebly and up graded and it is very easy to learn and maneuver. When you upgrade you get all the short cuts for creating a colorful and interesting web site. It is worth the $48 for the peace of mind that everything is there including You Tube and Flash. So if you are on the fence, invest the extra money for less stress setting it up.
Blessings!!!

Got it!

On the left hand side of the gadgets there is a link titled, "Use your own" and it works!

HELP!!!

I have been trying to add a Voki gadget to my blog for the last hour and can't figure it out. How do we add gadgets to our PLS?? I go it on my web site, but not here!!

GLP Proposal w/o link

Dr. KB’s Global Learning Project Worksheet/Proposal

Identify a subject/curricular area you teach that could benefit from a Global Learning experience.  LA and public speaking, social studies (different cultures)

Brainstorm
·         The overall goal of your GLP-to learn about other students interests and likes from different places, for the students to see they share the same interest as children in different places/countries, see new and interesting things from other cultures
·         What you want the students to learn? Children everywhere like similar things, toys, clothes, books, movies, favorite books and more
·         What you want them to do? Show and tell about something that is special to them, write about the item and take a picture with it
·         What you feel will be the cross-cultural benefits? Students will see how similar they are even though they live differently, they like similar things
·         If there is a final product, what might it look like? Many students pictures/videos with small captions telling about their special item, toys, books put together in an Adobe ebook
·         How will it benefit the participants so that they will want to be involved? God willing it will be interesting to see all the students and hear about their items, it is fun to see likes/differences from children of similar age

Search and review existing projects, resources around the topic, etc to see what is already out there and how your project can benefit the current GLP projects.
Summarize  I searched, Show n Tell, Show and talk, show and learn, tell and show, elementary show and tell, sharing and telling

Working Title of your GLP Show n Tell

Subject of GLPLanguage Arts, social studies, public speaking, meeting different cultures

List the Type/s of GLP structures you will use in your project such as: information exchanges, electronic publishing; social action project, etc..
  • Global Classroom
  • Information Exchanges
  • Electronic Publishing
  • Peer Feed Back

Define your project participants ages 5-11 years old
·         Biographical info about yourself [host classroom]
I am in the APU Master in Technology Program for Educators.
I am simultaneously working toward earning my Masters in Education with a Special Education Credential.  I will graduate with both masters in December. I love to travel and see the similarities between cultures and I want to share this interest with my students. Show and Tell is a simple concept and should be interesting to the students as well as the teacher.

·         What type of participants will you need to make the project successful? (i.e. grade level, geographical location, language, etc..) To start- k-6 and see if it grows

·         How many classrooms would make the GLP effective? More than 2 classrooms will make is successful, but the more there are the more interesting it will be

·         What will your participant’s roles be? To tell us via video camera or digital camera why the item is special with writing from student as a caption stating why it is special

Define Time parameters
·         What is your target date for implementing your GLP? Start in Fall 1, 2011 to Spring 2012

·         What is the target date for concluding your GLP? Unknown, possible using Google map to see locations

·         Will you continue annually, biannually? Annually Fall-Spring

State the rationale. Why is your project important or worthwhile? Everyone enjoys Show and Tell and they don’t seem to participate in it anymore. Students love to show new toys or other items they get and tell others about them. I like to show my new, “toys” and enjoy seeing others new items, gain a new perspective of what students value
·         See pg 4 of our optional text, Global project-based Learning with Technology” for an excellent list of possible project rationale
·         http://www.lullah.com/gpblplan/rationale.html also has potential ideas

Write a synopsis of your GLP [1-2 paragraphs]
This is like an advertisement that you will use to give prospective participants a clear idea of what it is about.
What is Show and Tell? Does anyone remember when we did something so exciting over the weekend and we were invited to share it with our class during Show and Tell time? Do you remember when we got a new toy or item and we got to tell our class about it? Content standards have put an end to Show and Tell, but I have a solution on how to meet state standards and keep Show and Tell alive in your classroom!! A Global Learning Project called Show and Tell!
What is a GLP and how does it work? That is very easy to answer. Students will bring to class their favorite story or item and they will be recorded tell us about it. Or you can use a digital camera and take a picture and write a small descriptive paragraph describing it! Your students will be able to read and see what other students are showing and telling around the world! What a great tool for introducing your students to other students there age around the globe.

State specific Objectives, Standards and Global Learning Outcomes [use action verbs]
Write as specific learning objectives. You may link to standards if possible at this phase in the process. This will continue to evolve as you build your project in your next class. Things to ask yourself….
·         What are your standards-aligned Learning Objective(s) for this GLP?
§  Students will learn about children their age from different cultures and difference
§  Students will share via video camera and/or camera with captions about their life and
§  IST National Standards

·         What are the content standards will you address in this GLP?
·         1st -6th grade writing paragraphs and writing skills

·         What are the main global learning objectives you envision in your GLP
·         For students to see the similarities with children in different cultures and see differences

·         What are the cross-cultural skills [global connection/component?]
·         Different cultures, same interest and different interest

Define the main Task(s): What will students (and other partners) be asked to do in the GLP project? Take a picture or video of the student sharing a special item and writing a caption under the picture about the item

Describe Project activities (introductory, learning and culminating activities) that students will engage in during the GLP? Show and Tell, writing, public speaking,

Define collaboration
·         How will you communicate? Through the web site using digital cameras, video and captioning with writing
o   Which tools will you use?
o   In what language will you communicate? Mainly English, but can use Google translator if needed
o   How will you accommodate other languages? Google Translator
o   How often will you communicate with partners? weekly
·         How will you collaborate with partner teachers? Online discussions
·         How will students collaborate online discussions
o   Within each classroom- one on one, face 2 face
o   Between partner classrooms
·         What parts of the project will be done together? Discussions
·         What parts of the project will each class do independently? writing

Describe how you will advertise
How and where will you advertise your project to find participants?
·         iEARN
·         Face Book
·         Flyers at schools/word of mouth
·         Friends that teach now
·         K-12
·         ePals
·         Global School House

Describe how you will showcase your project
  • How will you publish student work? I would like to collect the pictures and captions, or just words and make an Adobe enotebook to showcase the GLP, similar to the Magical Moments I am doing this summer, growing collage of favorites
  • How will you share collaborations? Through email, face book, word of mouth
  • How will you celebrate the accomplishments of your GLP with your class and participants? I will have a presentation for my class and any class that would like to see it

Define Resources needed:
·         What resources (hardware, software, WWW, etc…) do you need for your GLP?
WWW, word, Flip camera, video camera, digital camera, Google docs for presentation, Adobe,
·         Where and when will you gather these resources? List below.
·         What kind of ongoing support do you envision needing to be successful?
Support from my Cadremates and fellow teachers, my kiddos

Assessment
§  How will you assess students' proficiency with the standards and objectives selected? Will you use an observation checklist, a rubric, a test? Rubric will probably work the best, but that will need to be done by the teachers that participate, I may add a rubric to help the teachers see it will fit into core standards

·         Will students need any special training to participate in the GLP activities? If so, how will you build this into your GLP? No, I may write up a presentation piece that will introduce the Show and Tell concept

·         As your GLP takes off, evaluate it for quality (Are the students meeting the objectives you intended? What could you improve?) and efficiency (Is the GLP easy to understand, participate in and rewarding for the participants?).
Challenges/Constraints
·         What do you envision to be the greatest challenge with your GLP?
Setting it up, but I am sure I will have lots of help.

·         How might you complete the project if you don’t have the required number of participants?
I will enlist the home school moms I know and my neighbor children. I live near 13 elementary kids. I will advertise more and call teachers I use to work with, missionaries around the globe I know

·         What roadblock or obstacles might prevent you from implementing this project? How might you deal with these? I am trying not to think of any and with prayer all things are possible.
·         I have had road blocks before in my life and have always formed a new path and made it through. I do believe the same will happen here if I hit a road block.

Thots to ponder….

A GLP is a cross cultural collaboration that:
·         can solve a social or environmental problem
·         explore parallel histories
·         promote cultural healing
·         share a variety of perspectives around the world through many curricular areas (i.e. literature exchanges
“Diversity in language and culture among students and staff can be either a challenge or opportunity. Global project-based learning is a model for working with diverse students to utilize the differences into distinct learning advantages. Whether the projects include local populations or working to include students from other countries, global project-based learning provides concrete techniques for valuing diversity, integrating technology in project-based learning, and growing community support at schools.” Mark Standley [http://www.k12.hi.us/~eschool/conf2002/summary.htm]

For 526 (final class) you will present your newly implemented GLP website, reflect on your experience and what your future plans for your GLP are.
